How NextStep Works

A clearer way to navigate senior living.

The process begins with understanding the person—not with handing a family a list of communities.

The Process

Three steps from uncertainty to a plan.

01

Listen First

We start by listening—understanding your loved one’s needs, what matters most to them, and the concerns, preferences, timing, and budget that can help guide the next steps.

02

Identify the Right Options

We take what we’ve learned and narrow the search to two or three senior living communities or care homes that best match your loved one’s needs, preferences, location, and budget.

03

Move Forward With Confidence

We help you compare the options, prepare for tours, ask the right questions, and move forward with the option that feels like the best fit for your loved one. We can also join you on tours, if you’d like additional support along the way.

Start With What You Know

You do not need the answers before you call.

Many families are not sure whether they need independent living, assisted living, or memory care. That is normal. Start with the current situation and the questions can be worked through from there.

  • Who are you looking for?
  • What is becoming difficult right now?
  • Where would the person ideally live?
  • What budget range is realistic?
  • How quickly might a move need to happen?
TRANSPARENCY

No cost to families for placement assistance.

Families are not charged for NextStep's senior living placement assistance. Participating senior living communities may compensate NextStep when a referred individual moves into a community.

The family remains responsible for choosing the community that is right for them.

Common Questions

Before you begin.

Do I need to know what level of care is needed?

No. NextStep can start with what you are seeing now and help you understand which senior living categories may be worth exploring.

Do I have to choose a community NextStep suggests?

No. Families make their own decisions. NextStep's role is to help organize the search, provide guidance, and support the next step.

Can we tour more than one community?

Yes. When time allows, comparing multiple communities can help families understand the differences in environment, services, cost, and overall fit.

What if we are only planning ahead?

Planning before a crisis can make the process much easier. You can reach out even if a move is months away.
